

Dr. Oscar E. Ramirez, M.D., age 81, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, in San Antonio. He was born to parents Rosa Lila Barreneche and Jorge O. Ramirez, on June 28, 1940, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Oscar attended medical school at the University of Buenos Aires, where he met the love of his life, Julia A. Cunarro. The two were married in 1969, and by 1970, they emigrated to the United States, where Oscar began his residency in Anesthesia at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. In 1974, the family relocated to San Antonio, where he obtained success as a well-respected anesthesiologist in the community until he retired. During his medical career, Oscar became a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, as well as the Bexar County Medical Society. In his personal life, Oscar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed traveling around the world, collecting art, and spending time with his family. Being a grandfather came naturally to him, and his legacy will live on through his five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Oscar is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Julia A. Cunarro Ramirez; son, Sebastian E. Ramirez and his wife Julie Sample; daughter, Karla G. Ramirez and her husband Kurt L. Josten; grandchildren, Sophia, Etienne, Sebastian, Giancarlo, and Marco; sister Sara Ramirez and her husband Carlos Sala; and nephews, Diego and Christian. Oscar will be remembered as one who touched many through his generous spirit, keen insight, wit, and playful nature. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
