Douglas Goodell, 94, much loved husband, dad, granpie and great-granpie, passed into Jesus’ embrace on February 10, 2016. Born in Hot Springs, South Dakota he was a proud and dedicated military man serving in WWII and in the Korean War.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Jane. He was also preceded in death by his mother, father, and his brother. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly and husband, Jim; his son Robert and wife, Jan; granddaughter Gretchen and husband, Philip; and grandson Greg and wife, Amy. He greatly delighted in his great-grandchildren Henry and Vivian. He is also survived by two loving nephews, Mike and Sean. Finally, he is survived by wonderful long-time neighbors, Lisa and Jerry who loved Doug and Mary Jane.
Doug’s family is very grateful for the loving care shown to him over the past few months by his caregivers Felicia, Rose, Monica and his Cardiologist, Dr. Charles Roeth as well as the wonderful care given him by his hospice nurses the last days of his earthly life.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Windcrest United Methodist Church, 8101 Midcrown, 78239. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers Doug would appreciate a donation to San Antonio organizations: San Antonio Humane Society and Children’s Association for Maximum Potential or to his church where he served faithfully, Windcrest United Methodist Church.
