Don was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, coach and friend. He knew what life was about and he lived it well. Approaching the starting line he came out running in this game of life. He ran the race like no other has. He met hurdles along the way and cleared them with ease. His grace, compassion, desire and guidance were admired by all who knew him. Don passed away at the age of 74 on October 27, 2013 peacefully at his home. He was surrounded by his family and a close special friend. He was born September 7, 1939 in San Antonio, TX. He attended Harlandale High School and Southwest Texas State College (Texas State University), graduating in 1962. He started his career with Northside ISD in 1962 and retired after 41 years of service in 2003. Upon his retirement, NISD honored him by renaming the Northside Athletic Complex at 7001 Culebra Road to the Don Hardin Athletic Complex. He was also inducted into the Harlandale Hall of Fame in 2005. These gestures were and will always be a tremendous honor to him and his family. Don was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Thelma Hardin and his father and mother-in-law, Theodore and Esther Artz. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patsy; daughter Donna Barnhart (Tim); son Darren Hardin (Zandra); six grandchildren who always made him smile; Brittany, Shelby, Nathan, Alexandra, Grant and James; and great granddaughter Raylyn. He is also survived by his brother Cullen Hardin of Crocket, TX, as well as numerous sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held October 31, 2013 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home at 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio TX, 78238 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. After a private graveside service on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio TX, 78218. There will be a Celebration of Life and Memorial Service at 2:00 pm, on November 2, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 6800 Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX, 78240.
