Don was preceded in death by his father, M.N. Gage and his youngest brother, Pat Gage.
He was a member of the San Pedro Church of Christ and previously a member of the Beeville Church of Christ,he had served as a deacon, a bible teacher, and a camp counselor at Bandera Sunshine Camp.He was a devoted christian.
In addition to his church activities Don performed as a clown with his daughters Lisa and Lori. He was also a writer, chronicling his adventures around Childress, Tx where he lived for much of his life. He was also a poet.Growing up in Childress he worked in the family grocery store with his brothers Alan and Pat.
After graduating from Childress High School, Don attended Abilene Christian College and served in the Army. After returning home, he worked for the railroad for several years in Childress where he also served as a sports announcer for the local radio station. He remained a lifelong sports fan. Don was also active in the Childress Jaycees.
He began working for Lack's Furniture as a credit manager and eventually relocated to Beeville in the early seventies. He retired from Lack's in San Antonio, TX.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Mae Gage; 2 daughters, Lisa Owens & husband Bill and Lori Gage; 5 grandchildren; mother, Maggie Gage; brother, Alan Gage & wife Mary; sister-in-law, Donna Gage; 2 nieces, 1 nephews, several great nieces and nephew.
Visitation will be 5-7p.m., Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 1p.m., Monday, December 13, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bandera Christian Youth Camp.
