Dominga P. Cuellar was born on October 23, 1932, and peacefully passed away in her sleep on July 16, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents: Francisco & Genoveva Pardo, and her beloved husband of 62 years, Lorenzo Cuellar; brothers: Francisco Jr. (twin to Juan), Francisco the III, Arturo, and Rogelio; sisters: Patricia and Francisca (twin); son: Roberto, and daughter: Mary Helen.
She is survived by her brothers: Jesus (Alvina), Celestino (Maria), Alfredo (Irene), Gilberto, David, and Juan; sister: Benita (Cleofas); her beloved daughters: Guadalupe, Mary (Louis), Elsa, sons: Lorenzo (Vicki), Esteban, Cristóbal, and Mark, alongside 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Dominga was the eldest of 14 kids and grew up in a small town of Martindale, just outside of San Marcos, Texas. As the years went by, she grew up to become the strong willed and outspoken young woman. Overcoming family obstacles and trials in her life, Dominga persevered and went on to work as a crop picker to help make ends meet. Being the oldest in her family, she took the role of a second mother figure in the home without hesitation. In the later years she met Lorenzo Cuellar, where they eloped in San Antonio to begin their lives together. Soon after leaving home, she started her own family with her new husband. Raising kids soon became a full-time job, even if they were not always her own. Dominga became a housekeeper and worked in a Molino for many faithful years. Being a mother and caretaker to those around her came naturally, helping people is what she did best.
For those of us who were given the opportunity to grow up with or around her, have all come to understand that she was no ordinary woman. Short in stature, wise in years and a whole lot of personality; she proved time and time again that she would not let anyone, or anything stand in her way. Growing up with God in her heart, she decided to ensure that her family did too. Giving birth to 9 kids over the years, she became a vital part of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church congregation. Although Dominga was a dedicated mother and volunteer at the church, she started a new adventure with the Los Pastores (A play about the journey of birth Jesus Christ) and the Via Cruces. Taking on the role of Melicio gave her a newfound voice she did not know she had inside, it gave her strength and a new way to become closer to her savior. She took her role as Melicio and made it her own, she sang louder, danced more and became one to watch. As time went on, Dominga became a very well loved and respected individual in and outside of the Church.
Till this day Dominga P. Cuellar is and always will be matriarch of her family and will have a special place in all our hearts. In the words of our mother “I love you more”
