Dolores Minerva (Garcia) Valdez, born November 27, 1927 in Port Arthur, Texas, went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2023 at the age of 95. She was a secretary all of her working life, to include at Kelly Air Force Base, Oblate Missions (Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate), Hispanic Telecommunications Network (HTN), and three law firms. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, sewing, playing bunco, and watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and Tiger Woods. She grew up in Port Arthur, Texas and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1946. After high school, she took secretarial courses at Port Arthur College. She moved to San Antonio in the mid-1950s and married the love of her life, David Flores Valdez in 1956, and were happily married for 58 years until his death in 2015 due to Alzheimer’s.
In San Antonio, she attended St. Mary Magdalen Church for many, many years. She was a member of the Altar Society along with one of her best friends/neighbor/co-worker, Rosemary Cantu, who she also worked with at Oblate Missions and HTN. She was also in a bunco club for many years with her neighborhood friends and fellow parishioners.
Dolores was a friend to everyone and was a wonderful wife, mother, Nanny and Grandma. She will be missed by everyone that knew her. She always had a smile on her face. The family cat, Boo Boo, family dog Tinsel, and Swans Landing’s resident cat, Sweetie, are all missing her.
