Diane Michelle Goguen, a beacon of light and love in the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024, in her hometown of San Antonio, TX, after a courageous battle with leukemia and graft versus host disease. Born on August 11, 1997, Diane's infectious smile and boundless energy brought joy to her family and friends throughout her 26 years of life.
A true San Antonian at heart, Diane's early life was marked by academic excellence and a deep-seated passion for helping others. A proud graduate of the Science and Engineering Academy at John Jay High School in 2015, she continued her educational journey at Northwest Vista College, graduating in 2018. Diane's love for learning and her dedication to understanding the human mind led her to the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's in Psychology in 2020. Her thirst for knowledge was unquenchable, and she had embarked on her Masters/Doctorate program at Simmons University in Boston, Massachusetts, with the same zeal she approached all her endeavors.
Diane's professional life was a reflection of her dedication to service and community. For eight years, she worked at AAFES, where her colleagues became a second family. Her commitment to the well-being of children was evident through her volunteer work with Child Safe and several other youth programs. Diane's compassionate spirit touched the lives of many, and her legacy of kindness and empathy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
Family was the cornerstone of Diane's world. She was a cherished daughter to Donna (Shannon) and Daniel Goguen, a loving sister to Eric Rossignol (Tammy), David Goguen (Kimberly), and Danielle Younkin (Joshua), and an adored aunt to her nephews Jason Rossignol, Maxwell, and Oliver Younkin, and nieces Ashley Rossignol and Mackenzie Goguen. Diane's laughter, wisdom, and warmth created an unbreakable bond with her family, one that will endure in their hearts forever.
Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, Diane was a creative soul with a passion for the arts. Her love for writing poems allowed her to express her innermost thoughts and feelings, and her verses often served as a source of comfort and inspiration to those around her. An avid reader, she could always be found with a book in hand, lost in the pages of her latest literary adventure. Diane's melodious voice was a staple in the choir, and her love for music extended to all genres, providing a soundtrack to her life's many moments.
A culinary enthusiast, Diane found joy in the kitchen, both in the creation of delicious meals and the delight of watching cooking shows. Her dishes were not just food but an expression of her love for those she cared for, and her presence at family gatherings will be deeply missed.
Diane's journey on this earth was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the human spirit. Her life, though too short, was lived to the fullest, with each day embraced as a gift. As we mourn the loss of such a remarkable woman, we also celebrate the extraordinary impact she had on the world. Diane's legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, the memories she created, and the love she shared so freely.
In honoring Diane's memory, we reflect on the words of one of her favorite authors, "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." Diane Michelle Goguen will forever live in our hearts, her spirit a guiding light in the lives of those she loved.
Diane's family will hold a service to honor her life and memory. She will be laid to rest in her beloved city of San Antonio, where her story began and where it will lovingly be remembered.
