Derek Cary (Rick) Berry of Spring Branch, TX, passed away on November 30, 2019 after an extended illness. Rick was born in Shawnee, OK on January 20, 1943. He grew up in Oklahoma City where he was an outstanding athlete at Harding High School. Rick spent his adult life in the San Antonio area and retired from USAA.
Rick is survived by his wife, Milber Adams Berry of Spring Branch, his son Jeff Berry of Broken Arrow, OK, four grandchildren, Kellyn and Brent Berry of Oklahoma City and Jason and Sara Berry of Broken Arrow, OK and other family members, Terry and Ron Savoie of Oklahoma City, and Chris and Maggie Savoie and their children, Jack and Parker, of Edmond, OK. Rick was preceded in death by his son John Derek, his parents, Mari and Walter Berry, and his beloved grandmother, Maude Parrott.
Rick was passionate about animal rescue and he and Milber fostered well over two hundred dogs. He also loved designing and building BBQ smokers, Nascar, and water sports, but most of all, he loved his sons and enjoyed spending time with them until his illness prevented his traveling.
The family thanks the numerous friends, neighbors, members of Rebecca Creek Baptist Church in Spring Branch, and Minerva and Linda, registered nurses at St. Michael’s Home, for their love and support during Rick’s illness and his passing on to Heaven.
A Celebration of Rick’s life was held at his home on Saturday, December 7,2019. Memorial contributions may be made to either Southwest English Setter Rescue (SWESR.ORG) or Animal Rescue Connections (ANIMALRESCUECONNECTIONS.ORG).
