On January 28, 2014, our Mother, Delfina M. Martinez, went home to be with our Lord. Her children and grandchildren were there to bid her the last farewell and celebrate her victory over death. Family and friends will never forget her wonderful hospitality, ready cup of coffee and her always stylish countenance. Mother, a native of Robstown, TX, had been a long-time San Antonio resident and many may remember her as "Mrs. Longoria" of La Feria Department Store and Bridal Shop, Winnie Lee and Sinkins Dept Store. She lived life "her way" while fiercely loving and protecting her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. While the light of our world is diminished by her passing, we know the streets in Heaven are brighter as she walks with her parents, Camilo and Amalia Mendez; her sister, Dilia Saenz; her brothers, Cristel and Camilo Mendez; her granddaughter, Jessica Marlene Longoria and nephews, Robert M. Pena and Arturo Garcia III. We who remain will mourn, not for her, but for ourselves as our memories of her must fill the emptiness we now feel. She is survived by her loving and faithful husband, Robert Martinez; her children, Dee Dee Proctor, James (Maureen) Longoria, Arthur (Ana Marie) Longoria and Sandra Green, Carolyn (Dennis) Gane and Robert Martinez; her sisters, Laurencia Pena, Maria Eulalia Martinez and Maria de Jesus Schmidt; her fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Our family would like to express our most heartfelt appreciation to the Director and Staff (Cheryl) of the Salado Creek Nursing Home and Emergency Room Staff (Edie) of the Northeast Baptist Hospital for their kindness and support. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 01, 2014 at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd with a Memorial Service to begin at 11:00 a.m. that same morning. Interment will take Tuesday, February 04, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
