Preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy, Dee is survived by her remaining sisters, Marilyn, Jan, and Kim; her children, Mark and Royce Haley III; and her grandchildren, LeaAnn, Kristen, Dawn, Heather, Amanda, and Chris. She will be missed by many other relatives and friends.
Dee was introduced to a career in civil service by her mother, Lorraine Knight. She started as a very young woman with the post office and transitioned to information technology with civil service, spending the bulk of her career working her way up into management overseeing a large department that developed programming for Fort Sam Houston and many other locations. After retirement, Dee was able to help care for her daughter-in-law, Cindy. More recently, she was able to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Well known for her generosity, Dee never hesitated to freely give her ear, heart, time, home, or money to anyone in need. She was quite a collector, taking joy in the hunt and sharing her treasures with her family. She was also an avid fan of Disney, taking great pride in hosting several family trips to Florida to share the Disney Magic. Neither hobby eclipsed her love of games, whether it be in a bingo hall, on a computer, or around the family table. She is well known for hosting games of Shangri’ La and Hand & Foot well into the night. She also loved holidays, shopping, “oldies” music, movies, reality television, and news programming. Her kindness, laughter, and love will live on with her family.
A celebration of Dee’s life will be held at Sunset Memorial Park on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at noon. Sunset is located at 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218. Following the viewing, the service will start at 2 p.m., also at Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
