David Flores Valdez, born December 30, 1924, went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2015 at the age of 90. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and subsequently, the Air Force Reserves. His civil service career at Kelly AFB spanned 38 years, retiring as a C-5 Landing Gear Supervisor. His hobbies included fishing, auto repair, & watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and Tiger Woods.
He was a friend to everyone and was a wonderful husband, father, and Paw Paw. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family cat, Boo Boo, and family dog, Petunia, are missing sleeping at the foot of his bed.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Carvajal-Valdez and Zapopa Flores Valdez; brothers, Juan Valdez, Manuel Valdez, and Ignacio Valdez; sisters, Maria Valdez, Ascension Herrera, Margarita Ramirez, and Delfina Garcia. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dolores M. Valdez, children, Alma Dianne Aldrete, Blanche M. (David) Bongiorno, Lucila M. Collins, and David Mario (Joyce) Valdez, grandchildren, Kimberly D. (Gregory) Alexander, Christine (Richard) Banks, Ramon (Suzanne) Munoz, great grandchildren, Joshua E. Alexander, Kayleigh L. Alexander, and Gavin A. Munoz, niece, Jo Carol (Robert) Menchaca, nephew, Gilbert (Beatrice) Garcia, Jr., and numerous other nieces, nephews, and other relatives. We wish to thank the Encompass Hospice caregivers: Debi Walbright, Suzie Sanchez, Jill Dickerson, and Ernest Castro; the Right at Home caregivers: Peter Moreno, Mary Trevino, Brittany Bibbs, Jacquelyn Bledsoe, and Tammy Smertneck; and Katie Galvez.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be at 9:15 am on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Pallbearers: David Mario Valdez, David Bongiorno, Ramon Munoz, Gilbert Garcia, Jr., Peter Moreno, and Leonard Navarro.
