David Hernandez Sanchez

David H. Sanchez, 73 went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2023. David was born on July 14, 1949 in San Antonio, TX to Vicenté Sanchez and Sarah Hernandez Bird. David attended Fox Tech High School and graduated with the class of 1968. He immediately enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly completed a tour in Vietnam from July 10, 1968 to November 10, 1969 as a Lance Corporal. When David returned to the United States, he met his soulmate and the love of his life, Chayo. David married her on February 6, 1971, settled in San Antonio, Texas and began their family. After working several jobs, the decision to reenlist in the military led him to do so with the U.S. Air Force for 33 years from June 1, 1979 to November 10, 2004 as a Technical Sergeant. David also worked and retired from civil service at Kelly A.F.B. and SAMMC. As a child, David enjoyed being a member of the Boy Scouts and an alter boy at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower. He was lovingly known for being a Pit Master, and enjoyed music while talking endlessly with his wife in his man cave named Firebase Freedom. He loved to be surrounded by family and friends. David will be immeasurably missed by his loving wife of 53 years Maria G. “Chayo” Sanchez, daughters Sonia Sanchez and life partner Linda K. Rodriguez, and Stephanie Sanchez. His sisters Sarah and husband Roy Rife, Rosie Navarro, brother Vincent and wife Sylvia Sanchez, and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents Vicenté Sanchez and Sarah Hernandez Bird, he is preceded by his son, Baby Boy Sanchez and brother Robert “Bobby” Bird.

A service of remembrance will be held from 5:00 PM to 10:00PM on March 6, 2023, Rosary 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Treviño Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Rd., San Antonio, TX 78211. Mass services at 11:00 AM on March 7, 2023, Saint Leonard’s Catholic Church, 8510 S. Zarzamora San Antonio, TX 78224. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
