David Paul Jones was born on, March 19, 1960 and passed away on, April 19, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Mary Helen Jones; his parent-in-laws, Robert and Brittie Chrismon; and sister-in-law, Linda Gonzales. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Jones; children, Nathan Jones, Michelle and Blas Davalos; grandchildren, Melody, Blas II (Bubba), and Katalea; as well as his sister and brother-in-law, and numerous other family, friends, and musician buddies.
David worked for DPT and DFB Pharmaceuticals. He started in the lab then went on to hold other titles in the company before becoming a patent agent. He truly enjoyed what he did. He received his diploma from Robert E. Lee High School and his Bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University.
In his free time, David was a musician of many instruments, lots of which were self-taught. The list includes: Trombone, Tenor horn, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba, Bass Guitar, Trap Set, Latin Percussion, Congas, and the Bongos. He also loved photography and was good at it too. He enjoyed traveling to the beach in Corpus Christi. He and his family went every summer without fail. With his family, they traveled to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Mexico, and Vienna with the Boerne Village Band. Vienna is a musician’s paradise; David and Cheryl had always planned to go back. David specifically loved Big Bend the most out of all the adventures he had gone on. He also had a great sense of humor and loved going to the movies and footballs games.
The last trip the Jones family took as a family was in summer of 2021. They traveled the Route 66 from San Antonio to Las Vegas to California and back. It was the best trip they had taken all together and will specifically be remembered fondly.
David, being the musician he was, spent a lot of time with various bands throughout his life. He started out in the high school marching band and continued onto his college marching band. He was also in, Beethoven Band (German), Boerne Village Band (German), Boerne Ensemble (German), Boerne Concert Band, Prime Time Jazz Orchestra with The Blue Star Brewing Company, Heart of Texas Orchestra, and a Church Worship Band for many years. David even had a garage band named the Nostalgic Horizons Music from the 50’s to the 80’s.
He most of all loved his Land Rover. It was his baby and his prized possession. While David called his Land Rover the love of his life; it’s obvious that his true love came into his life when he met his wife. David and Cheryl met the night before her graduation. It was an instant connection. He proposed in May of 1981 and was married by May 1982, after his own graduation. Pastor Charles Wisdom is the pastor that married them. The couple were always thankful to Pastor Charles for his prayers that he prayed over them that were answered.
He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
