Daniel was born on February 10, 1959 to Robert and Betty Dupont in Inglewood, California. He was one of four children to brothers Craig, James and sister Renee. Early on, Dan expressed an affinity for knowledge and embraced a lifelong interest in learning. His inquisitive nature peaked in many varied subjects and hobbies including woodworking, photography, and bicycling. Ultimately, Dan’s enthusiasm for education led to his graduate degree in Dentistry from UCLA in 1985 and into an Air Force career.
In 2015, Daniel retired as a Colonel from the United States Air Force after 30 years of service. His career spanned across a global scale, serving across the United States and in various locations overseas to include Turkey, Korea, and Japan. A true Airman and selfless servant, he continued to serve the US Air Force and the Dental Corps post-retirement, working as a dentist at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Air Force Base, TX, where Dan took care of thousands of Airmen for years to come. His positive attitude, mentorship to clinicians, and unwavering devotion to duty were undeniable.
Daniel was highly active throughout his entire life and devoutly adopted a healthy living lifestyle. However, for those closest to Dan, it was well known that he had a sweet tooth and would often indulge on his favorite treats…CHOCOLATES. All of which complimented his incredible passion for fitness, specifically, bicycling and walking.
Faith, love, and family personify how Dan lived his life. His everlasting commitment to Catholic values and service to our God was threaded through everything he did.
Dan loved and appreciated family and friends unconditionally and deeply. His most cherished memories were spending time experiencing the beauty of the world, whether it be vacationing with his wife Dolores, road tripping with his daughter Isabella, bicycle riding with his brother James, talking with his nephews and niece, or having a lovely meal with neighbors.
He is survived by his wife Dolores, his daughter Isabella, sister Renee Dupont, brother James Dupont, nephews Paul Dupont, Joe Varney, Samual Varney, and niece Mary (Dupont) Murata. He was proceeded in death by his father Robert, mother Betty, brother Craig, and nephew Gary.
Daniel’s departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved and cherished him both in his professional and personal communities.
A memorial mass for Daniel will be held Friday, July 5, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 8500 Cross Mountain Trail, San Antonio, TX 78255.
