Deacon Dan McShane, age 68, passed away April 1, 2022, surrounded by family in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 15, 1953 to Thomas and Dorothy (Lehen) McShane. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he has been a Deacon at St. Pius X for 11 years. Deacon Dan met his wife, Sherri, at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and they were married in December of 1975. During their 46 years of marriage, they lived in various parts of the country as Dan progressed in his railroad career. He began as a management trainee with the Missouri Pacific Railroad and started his career in Sales, moving from Sales Representative to Sales Manager. After MoPac was purchased by Union Pacific, he began to move into Acquisitions and Abandonments. In 1991 he accepted a position as a Vice President with RailTex in San Antonio and worked on expansion of new lines. In the late ‘90s, he accepted a position with Rio Grande Pacific where he served as President and COO; he traveled extensively in South America, Europe, Mexico, Canada, and Australia. After retiring in 2001, he had his own railroad consulting business, worked briefly for AACOG, and managed the parish office for St. Pius X. In 2006, after much prayer and reflection, he began formation for the Diaconate. Ordained on June 4, 2011, he began his ministry at St. Pius X, serving in many capacities until he became ill. Even after his illness and confinement at home, he made inspirational videos for SPX on YouTube.
