Dan Michael Johnson was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 1, 1940 and passed away on September 21, 2016. At age 6, his parents moved to Kerrville where his father owned Johnson’s Blue Bonnet Jewelry store. Dan used to gift wrap packages and polish silver after school.
When he started high school, they moved to Yoakum. He graduated from St. Joseph’s school where he played left tackle for the Tigers. He was a delegate to Lone Star Boy’s State, an Eagle Scout, and King of the Tomato Tom-Tom festival in Yoakum.
Dan graduated from The University of Texas where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi and the honorary fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. After college, Dan went into the Army and later the Sears training program. He and Patsy Stampp were married in 1963.
Dan was with Sears for 20 years and became Personnel Manager of the Catalog Plants in Dallas and Kansas City. In 1983, he and Patsy returned to San Antonio where he worked in commercial real estate and later was the owner of San-Tex Door Corp.
Dan loved to hunt, fish, entertain, and joke around. Patsy used to say that she had his jokes numbered. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, The San Antonio Country Club and the Conopus Club and served as its President in 2007.
Dan is pre-deceased by his parents, Helen and Bill Johnson and his brother Bill Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy, son Rick and wife Julie and his precious granddaughter, Gracie, who always called him “And Dan”.
The Memorial Service will be at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 404 North Alamo, San Antonio, TX 78205. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.
