Dale Eastman, a fierce advocate for all those affected by breast cancer, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at her home in Houston, Texas. She was 84 years old. As a founder of the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation, Dale dedicated her life to providing support, resources, and hope to countless individuals and families in the San Antonio community and beyond.
Dale's diagnosis of stage 3 breast cancer at age 49 was the catalyst for all of her advocacy work that followed. Her passion for helping others and her unwavering determination led her to establish the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation in 1992. Dale poured her heart and soul into building an organization that would make a tangible difference in the lives of those navigating a breast cancer diagnosis.
Under Dale's leadership, the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation grew from a grassroots effort to a vital resource, offering screening & financial assistance, a resource helpline, educational programs, research funding and legislative advocacy work. Dale worked to establish the Patient Advocate Program at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, the world's largest breast cancer conference. Dale worked directly with legislators at the state and federal level to pass a multitude of bills directly supporting those with breast cancer. Her compassionate approach and ability to connect with people on a personal level created a strong sense of community and empowerment among survivors, patients, as well as lawmakers and public policy leaders.
Dale's impact extended far beyond the foundation's direct services. She was a vocal advocate for breast cancer awareness, early detection, and access to quality care. Her tireless efforts raised significant funds for research and local support programs, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of breast cancer support in Texas.
Throughout her entire career Dale always remained steadfast in the true purpose of her work. Many of us remember her blunt answer when she was asked "What is your vision for ABCF in 10 years?" Her reply- "Well, I hope we won't even need to exist anymore because we're going to cure breast cancer!"
Dale's legacy of compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment will continue to inspire all who knew her and those whose lives she touched through the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation.
Even more important than her breast cancer work was Dale's infinite love for her family. Dale was truly devoted to her beloved husband of 59 years, Dr. Harry Eastman, their 3 children, Andy (and Lori) Eastman, Brad (and Anna) Eastman and Robin (and Donald) Wayne, and their 5 grandchildren. Dale had so much love to give and she considered her vast network of friends, colleagues, and beneficiaries to be her extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dale's memory to the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation, www.alamobreastcancer.org, to help continue the vital work she so passionately championed.
