Cory Gene Wainscott – beloved son, brother, grandson and friend – passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. Cory was born to Gene and Debra Wainscott on October 13, 1980, in San Antonio, Texas. He attended MacArthur High School, where he was active in several sports, including wrestling and football. After graduating in 1999, Cory entered the United States Marine Corps and spent five years in active duty. Cory was the honor graduate at the Marine Embassy Guard School in 2003 and served as a Marine Embassy Guard and Detachment Commander in several U.S. Embassies in Afghanistan and many countries throughout Africa over a period of three years. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 2007. Afterward, he joined Blackwater Security as a private security contractor, providing protective security to the State Department personnel in Baghdad, Iraq. Cory was very proud of his travels around the world; he lived life to the fullest and possessed a passion for living life on the edge. Most of all, Cory loved to spend time with his family and a host of wonderful friends, all of whom cared for him deeply. In addition to his parents, Cory is survived by his older brother Brad and his sister-in-law Wendy, as well as his grandparents, Doris and Jerry Jackson and Mary Jo and Bernie Wainscott, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Eddie Cowling.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home followed by visitation until 2:15PM. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 2:30PM for a graveside service with full military honors at 2:45PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
