Consuelo “Connie/Chelo” Garcia Flores, or simply "Bella," beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on June 30th, 2021. She leaves behind a legacy of service to the community as a teacher for over three decades, as well as volunteer and donor to a number of causes dear to her heart.
She was a woman of deep faith, welcoming and inclusive in expressing her spirituality. Devoted to her children, she found new energy in the birth of her grandchildren as each was born, or brought into the family by marriage; supportive, proud and ever the teacher in her life with them. As a mother, she never wavered in her love for all her children, extending that love to the spouses and countless friends brought home to meet her. She was a loving and supportive big sister to her siblings as well as her nieces and nephews, always happy to lend an empathetic ear or give a gift when needed. And many of her students whom she taught in elementary school maintained contact with her throughout their adulthood, a testament to her power as a nurturing and caring teacher and mentor.
She was a dedicated wife to a career military man, supportive throughout his multiple deployments to Vietnam and after, providing a home for their children while still teaching and nurturing the children of others. Despite the challenges between them over the years, she departed the world professing her love for her husband, knowing that she was loved and cherished in return by her "old man."
She was beautiful, elegant and feminine, and a staunch feminist who saw joy in the world despite its injustices and sought for others to find their own joy. She was friend to her brothers and sisters, and a sister to her friends. She was a daddy’s girl but fiercely independent, and an avid reader and seeker of knowledge who also loved telenovelas and corny romantic ballads. She always searched for ways to be a better person and helped others to be their better, authentic selves. She was radiant, steadfast and true; a North Star to her family leading to warmth, happiness and home.
She is unforgettable, irreplaceable and irreplicable. She will be missed.
