Passionate veteran and proud grandfather, Constantino G. Saldana died Saturday, November 30, 2013 in Austin, Texas. Constantino was born on March 11, 1931 to parents Louis P. and Concepcion G. Saldana in San Antonio, Texas. He was raised in the Alamo City and graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1950. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1952. He served for 4 years and was honorably discharged in 1956. During his service, Tino discovered a love for working on aircraft and would continue this occupation as a civil servant at Kelly Air Force Base. During his 39 years at Kelly, Tino worked as a master electrician, worked in the C-5 Avionics department, and served as an Aircraft manager for B-52s before retiring in 1990. An avid sports fan, he passionately cheered for the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and Texas Longhorns. Tino is survived by his wife of 59 years, Velia, his daughters Yvonne and Rebecca, his son Mark, his sons-in-law, Guadalupe and Hector, and his three grandchildren Briana, Andres, and Esteban. Of his sibilings, he is survived by his sister Maria Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his parents Concepcion G. and Louis P., as well as his older brother Louis G. Saldana. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare professionals who took great care of Tino during his final years in Austin, Texas. Included in their thanks are Drs. F. Javier Otero and Karunakar Annapureddy, as well as the staff at DaVita Dialysis. A rosary will take place Monday, December 9, at 7:00 p.m. at Roy Akers (515 N. Main). The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church (350 Sutton Dr.) with burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
