Connie Evelyn Terry Steelhammer, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed peacefully on April 8, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in Raymondville, Texas on August 9, 1934, Connie lived a life full of grace, kindness, and deep devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
A proud graduate and valedictorian of her high school class, Connie earned a scholarship to Texas Women’s College in Denton, TX, where she completed her degree in Homemaking – a fitting field for someone whose heart was always centered around caring for others.
In 1956, Connie married the love of her life, Kenneth Steelhammer. Their 68-year journey together was marked by enduring love, laughter, and unwavering support. They built a beautiful life in El Paso, TX, where they lived for 48 years before moving to San Antonio in 2005 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In 2023, they relocated to Taylor, TX, residing at SPJST Assisted Living.
Connie found joy in life’s simple pleasure – traveling to new places, digging in the dirt in her garden, and sharing long talks and big hugs with those she loved most. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, often filled with the smell of home-cooked meals, blooming flowers, and the sound of laughter from her children and grandchildren.
She was deeply devoted to the Lord and passed that faith on through her actions—quiet strength, endless generosity, and a heart that was always open.
Connie is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth Steelhammer; her children Dianne Pitts and Terry Steelhammer (Debby); her beloved grandchildren Ashleigh Udick (Eric), Weston Steelhammer (Katelynn), Colton Pitts, Courtney Trebing (Chris), Colby Ingram, and Caleb Ingram; and eight great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
Her legacy of love, gentleness, and faith will live on in each of them. While her presence will be deeply missed, her spirit remains in every garden bloom, every family gathering, and every shared prayer.
The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Road. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery following the services.
