Claire Dawson Hollar passed away on March 23, 2013 in the early hours of the morning, at the age of 85. She was born December 21, 1928 in Woodbury, New Jersey, where she lived for 81 years before moving to San Antonio. Claire graduated from Woodbury High School and Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Hahnemann Hospital and Underwood Memorial Hospital until 1993. Claire was a perfectionist in everything she did, which made her a fantastic nurse in all her positions in intensive and cardiac care, labor and delivery, and later as a hospital supervisor. Claire was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and became a friend to everyone she met. She spent her life caring for others, whether that meant her family or her patients. Claire dearly loved her many dogs. She will be missed, but we rejoice that she is joined by many loving family members in heaven. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marion T. and Arthur Smith, her first husband, Dr. Fred D. Snyder, Jr., her second husband, Donald C. Dawson, and her son, Fred D. Snyder III. She is survived by her third husband of three years, Homer Hollar; daughters, Nancy S. (Randall) Whitten and Amy D. (Kevin) Hickey; daughter-in-law, Vicki Snyder; grandchildren, Chelsea Snyder, Claire Whitten, JoAnna Whitten, Susanna Whitten, and Jack D. Hickey; brother, Ralph T. (Georgia) Smith; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Tom) Dowdell; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, JoAnn Morton, Ruthie Smith, and Rosemary Kuzner. Memorial services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Morningside Manor Chapel. Services will conclude at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Morningside Ministries or Underwood Memorial Hospital.
