Christina Clarich Dominguez, born February 3, 1930 in Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her father Christopher Clarich, Sr., her mother Zenona Contreras Quintero, and her brother Christopher Clarich, Jr. She is survived by her husband Maj. Sam C. Dominguez, USAF (Ret); daughters Anna Maldonado (Victor Zapata); Terry Grimmett (Kelly); Carmelita Sprague (the late Dr. Steven Sprague); Patricia Anguiano (Miguel); sons Robert C. Dominguez (DeAnna); Samuel D. Dominguez (Joan); sisters Annie Marie Ortiz (Houston); Zenona Ortega (California); brother Simon A. Clarich (Corpus Christi); thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and life long friends.
She was a 1948 graduate of Corpus Christi High School. Christina was a member of the Women’s Army Corp (WAC), honorably serving her country from 1949 to 1953 during the Korean conflict. She received her military training at Camp Lee, Virginia and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, proudly serving as a Pentagon aide and later as a WAC recruiter in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Christina married her loving husband of 56 years, Sam Dominguez, in 1954 and began her life’s work as a loving mother and devoted U.S. Air Force military wife. She supported her husband’s military career when he served in Korea as well as through family moves to Germany , Nicaragua and San Antonio .
Christina was a long time member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and was active in fundraising efforts to build the church in the 1960s, sang in the Spanish choir and was involved in other parish ministries. She was a Red Cross volunteer at local hospitals and nursing homes for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated caregivers at Nurses in Touch Community Hospice and Nurses In Touch Home Health and as well as loving family friends Queta, Josefina and Linda for their many years of compassion, kindness, and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Christina’s name may be made to an Alzheimer’s organization of your choice or St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 7, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to held at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4411 Moana, at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Interment to follow immediately at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
