Chester Francis "Chet" Hunt, 86, of San Antonio died July 4th, 2023. He was born Aug. 5, 1936, in Poteet, Texas, to the late John Edwin "Jack" Hunt and Ruth Madlyn Townsend Hunt. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister in law, John Henry "Jack" Hunt and Janice Odell Hunt.
Chester had a huge influence on his friends, family, and students. He inspired many to be brave and follow their hearts when making life and career choices. Even after retirement, Chet continued to help by posting blogs filled with information needed to be a great Journalist/Writer. Upon his death, many of those he inspired wrote tributes of heartfelt appreciation and gratitude stating that Hunt, through his calm, steadfast, demeanor, greatly influenced their lives and career paths. Many of them have become award winning journalists and authors.
More recently, Hunt enjoyed being at home, yelling at the crazy political happenings on TV and working crossword puzzles. He also loved his cats, especially Katie and Mister. They preceded him in death.

Teaching experience — UT-Austin, reporting, editing and advising scholastic publications; Pleasanton High School, Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca, Hondo High School and Robert E. Lee High School where he was adviser to The Bugle Call (paper) and Traveler (Yearbook)for six years. He taught for 28 years at San Antonio College.
Hunt was honored as High School Journalism Teacher of the Year (1976) from the University Interscholastic League Press Conference; Journalism Achievement Award (1971 and 1972) from the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund; editor and managing editor of Acequia, San Antonio College faculty journal (four years); Editor, The Community College Journalism Association Journalist; “Legend of Texas Scholastic Journalism” by Interscholastic League Press Conference in 2002; Edna McGaffey Media Excellence Award, sponsored by The San Antonio Express-News, from The Association for Women in Communications in 2007; and Trailblazer Award from Texas Association of Journalism Educators, 2008.
