Charlotte Russell Swayze was born December 15, 1929 to parents Lewis Russell and Celestine Mosbey Byrd. She attended parochial and public school as well as Huston Tillotson College. Charlotte was a member of St. Paul and Coker United Methodist Churches. She lived 43 years in San Francisco, California and Santa Rosa, California.
Charlotte married David Swayzer, Jr. in 1949, three daughters were born to this union: Sharon Sharkey (Patrick) of Boston, Massachusetts; Julie Swayze (Steve Bowie) of Pasadena, California; and Dr. Susan Swayze (Dr. Damon Moore) of Hamilton, Virginia. She leaves to mourn three daughters; three granddaughters—Lauren Lee, Nicole Jones, and Lara Moore; one grandson, Jacob Moore; three brothers—Wayne (Katie), Raymond (Regina), and Larry (Gloria); two sisters—Linda Russell and Lillian Harris; and a host of relatives and friends.
Charlotte loved music and played for churches most of her life. Her hobbies included antique shopping and quilting. The Charlotte Russell Swayze Scholarship was her favorite project. Her legacy is a long and lasting one. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
