Cecilia F. Govea

Cecilia was born November 22, 1917, in Mackay, Texas, a small farming community in Wharton County. She was one of ten children born to Luz and Sara Fuentes. In the early 1940s the family moved to San Antonio where they settled in the area known as Cementville. She married Juan Govea on September 5, 1945. He died in January 1952. Tia Chila, as she was known by all, never remarried. She never had children of her own but had many nieces and nephews to dote on. She devoted herself to taking care of her parents in their old age. Tia Chila was a very independent woman and made a life for herself. Cecilia, worked for years as a seamstress at a curtain company.

She was a devoted Catholic and involved in the Cursillo movement in the 1960s. After her retirement, she volunteered at her church, St Ann’s Catholic Church, in many capacities. She enjoyed traveling with her family especially going to the casino.

For the last nine years Cecilia had been a resident of Hunters Pond Nursing Home as she could no longer live alone. She spent her days doing word find puzzles, coloring, playing bingo and loteria. We would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Hunters Pond Nursing Home for the care and attention provided to our aunt.

Cecilia is preceded in death by her husband Juan Govea, her parents Luz and Sara Fuentes, sisters, Marcela Martinez, Maria de Jesus (Chuy) Guerra, and Carmen Martinez, brothers, Alfredo, Andres, Luz Jr, and Gregorio Fuentes.

She is survived by her sister, Guadalupe Talamantes, brother, Steve Fuentes, numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends including her caregiver of many years, Dolores Medellin.

Cecilia will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation for Cecilia will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd, San Antonio, Tx. 78237, on Thursday September 8, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 9PM with a Rosary and prayer service at 7PM. Funeral Mass will take place at St Timothy’s Catholic Church, 1515 Saltillo St., San Antonio, Tx. 78207, on Friday September 9, 2022, at 10AM. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd., San Antonio, Tx. 78226.
