Carmen Tilley Pierce, RN was born on September 12, 1919 to Valentine and Pairlee Yarbrough Tilley in Pearsall, Frio County, Texas. She departed this earthly life to be with our loving God on February 19, 2016.
Carmen was the youngest of eight siblings, all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by three sons, James “Tony” (Brenda), JD (Judy), and Larry “Bubba” (Barbara) Pierce. Two children preceded her in death, Linda Louise her only daughter and Francis Ralph her oldest son. Aside from her love her for family, her passion was nursing. Although she got a later start in her nursing career than most, she accomplished more than most, becoming an RN and owning two home health agencies at the same time towards the end of her career. She also formed her own licensed home health training school to provide certified nurses’aides to the home health agency industry. She enjoyed this activity more than any other work she ever did.
Having accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age she remained active in church activities all of her life. Carmen was an active member of the University Baptist Church for many years, particularly enjoying teaching Sunday school to her senior peers.
Visitation will take place at 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service to be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel located at 1701 Austin Hwy San Antonio, Texas officiated by Pastor Randy Bales of the University Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
While in business, her favorite charities were her church and those charities offering help and hope to the homeless and the very poor. For any who would wish to donate, she would have those preferred organizations be remembered rather than to send or bring flowers.
