Carmen R. De La Garza

Carmen had a caring heart and a great adoration for children. She had a passion for education and served her community as a Paraprofessional at Collins Garden Elementary School for 32 years. She had a strong presence in the Collins Garden community and was admired for her commitment, generosity, kindness, and lasting friendships; she will be remembered by many.

Above all, Carmen loved her family and was a dedicated mother to her four children. She is survived by her son Edward De La Garza, Jr. and wife, Ellen, daughter, Yvette D. Gomez, and son, Anthony Victor De La Garza and wife, Trenna. She had nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward S. De La Garza, her son Bobby Tijerina, and several siblings.

Services celebrating Carmen’s life will be conducted on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Roy Akers Funeral Home (515 N. Main Ave.) with a public viewing from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Rosary from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. On Monday, June 5, 2017, the procession to San Fernando Cemetery #3 from Roy Akers Funeral Home will begin at 10:00 a.m.
