Family and friends knew Carmen as Leticia or Letty. Letty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a passion for gardening and a talent for sewing. She collected Nativities (small and large), rosaries and crosses; Letty enjoyed a good mystery book or movie, the Hallmark Channel and crossword puzzles. Letty loved to dance with her late husband, Vicente, and they loved watching the Spurs. Over the years Letty went on several religious pilgrimages, including a trip through Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France. In her travels she visited many Christian religious sites including Lourdes, Fatima and the Vatican. On a pilgrimage with her husband Vicente, they both visited the Holy Land.
Letty was a charter member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church where she volunteered in various groups. She was a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society for over 35 years and served as treasurer, secretary, and president. Letty served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist for several years and volunteered frequently at Eucharistic Adoration. Letty had a devotion to our Blessed Mother, saying the rosary every morning and the Devine Chaplet each day. Whenever possible she tried to attend daily mass. She was also a Dame of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at St. John Neumann and member of a rosary prayer group.
Letty graduated from high school in Bayamon, Puerto Rico and earned a teaching degree from the University of Puerto Rico. Letty was a devoted military wife and mother. It is said spouses serve as well. She definitely did serve. The army relocated the family to Oklahoma, Germany, back to Puerto Rico, Okinawa and Texas through the years. Many times, Vicente was sent ahead of the family, leaving Letty to travel with 4 small children to different parts of the world. Letty always supported Vicente and made each new location feel like home for the family. She found opportunities to volunteer or join the local ladies’ groups.
Letty will be dearly missed by our family but we have faith she has gone home our Lord. We have no doubt that she is again dancing with her husband Vicente. She will always be in our hearts.
