Loved for her strength, faith and kindness.
Brigitte Christa Koehler’s earthly journey came to an end on February 2, 2022. Brigitte was born on February 16, 1941 in Reussenau, Germany (East Prussia). As an infant she was adopted by Dora and Willy Wollert who became her loving parents. They moved to Berlin where they survived the war and Brigitte finished school and college. At age 20 she came to San Antonio to be reunited with Richard whom she had met in Berlin while he was serving in the Army. After being in Texas for only five weeks, Richard asked her to marry him, and on July 5, 1961, they were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in San Antonio. Brigitte became very active in Richard’s chiropractic profession, serving as president of the chiropractic auxiliary several times and holding different offices. She also worked in Richard’s clinic for many years as office manager until she decided to join the travel industry as a “hobby” which she built into a very successful business; her loyal and devoted friends and clients loved her and appreciated the excellent service they received.
Church life has always been very important to Brigitte and in 1968 she was elected as the first female president of the Atonement Lutheran Church where she also started a kindergarten and day care center.
Later Richard and she were asked to start a mission congregation, “Amazing Grace Lutheran Church,” where they became charter members and Brigitte served as treasurer and financial secretary until they transferred to Zion Lutheran Church where she helped in many areas.
Brigitte loved to travel and through her business she was able to visit all continents, but their favorite place was Aruba where they spent the month of June for 35 years. Her children and grandchildren vacationed there with her several years.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Dr. Richard Koehler, sons Dr. Cliff Koehler, Roger Koehler, daughter-in-law April Koehler, grandson Daniel Koehler, granddaughters Christa and Ella Koehler, as well as one brother, Jorg Wollert in Germany and a sister Ilse Moisjes in England. Several nephews and nieces are also surviving. She was preceded in death by her parents Dora and Willy Wollert.
Brigitte said, “As we gather to give thanks for this life, we do so knowing that we will join God singing praises to He who has redeemed us.”
Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please send your thoughts and prayers to the family.
