Brenda Lee Calderon was introduced to this world on December 10, 1962 in Jacksonville Florida. She was born with a fighting spirit which guided her through a life of numerous battles with her heart condition. Despite her illnesses, she grew to be a courageous woman with a “can do” attitude.
On December 11, 2019 Brenda left this world to be reunited with her beloved husband, Juan Calderon; her cherished mother, Delfina S. Ibarra; and her admired Aunt Laura Bernal. Brenda leaves her father, Pete C. Ibarra, with the gift of memories from years of fishing trips and laughter from jokes at each other’s expense. Brenda also leaves her twin sister, Belinda (Leo) Chapa, with memories of the bond they shared over their 57 years of life together. Brenda loved each of her siblings immensely and learned the true meaning of family through them: Joyce (Gary) Haritos, Pete “Big Pete” Ibarra III, Jesse Ibarra, Gregg Ibarra (Elizabeth), Rosario Ibarra, Pete “Little Pete” Ibarra. She also loved her Uncle John dearly. Brenda was blessed with many nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews; all of which she cherished each moment spent with them and watching them grow. Brenda also leaves her dogs, Buckee, Taco, and Bella, with memories of belly scratches and a loving home. She also had many friends which she adopted and loved as family over her lifetime.
Brenda spent the majority of her early life in San Antonio before transferring to Roy Miller high school in Corpus Christi, where she found joy in playing the flute for the Battling Bucs marching band. She then returned to San Antonio to finish her high school years at Douglas MacArthur high school. Brenda knew that life was a precious gift and that it was meant to be spent with the ones you love. She loved sharing stories, at least a time or two, and was always the one to agree to most any activity. She put her family and friends in the forefront of her mind without any hesitation. Brenda made sure that everyone was comfortable and taken care of before sitting down to enjoy her time with them. Not only did she love her family, but she loved the outdoors and every animal that inhabited this world. Throughout her life she cared for numerous pets and was an active donor to the ASPCA. Brenda captured a multitude of images of the world around her through her camera lens. She loved to capture moments in time including landscapes, weather, animals, and candid family moments. Brenda also had a keen eye for aircrafts in her ability to identify most any airplane flying overheard, a talent she acquired through her father’s knowledge of aviation he shared with her. Brenda will always be remembered, not only for her love of others, but for her laugh and smile that always accompanied her entrance into any room.
Visitation and time to celebrate Brenda’s life will be on Wednesday December 18, 2019 from 4:00pm until 7:30pm with a chapel service at 5:00pm. She will be laid to rest along side her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on December 19, 2019at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the ASPCA in Brenda’s memory
