"Junior" was born on March 17, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas and was the youngest of eleven children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonifacio Gonzales Sr. and Genoveva Hinojosa Gonzales and siblings: Jesse Gonzales, Henry Gonzales (Kike), Alfred Gonzales, Porfirio Gonzales (Pilo), Fred Gonzales (Coto), Janie Gutierrez, Lily Andrews, Elvira Zamarripa (Vira) and Mary Lopez. He is survived by his loving wife, Genevieve (“Jean”) Gonzales, and his children: Arthur (Art) Gonzales, Eddie Gonzales and wife, Sharon, Melissa Bolden, Laura Bailey and husband, Ezra. He is also survived by his brother, Ernest (Neto) Gonzales and sister-in-law, Hope. Junior leaves a loving legacy to his grandchildren Jason Gonzales and wife, Lauren, Stephanie Graham and husband, Wes, Michael Gonzales, Arianna Gonzales, Jayden Bolden, Joshua Bolden, Brice Bailey, and Ian Bailey. He has four great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces that he loved dearly.
Junior joined the United States Army and soon after his return from serving, he met the love of his life as they both lived on 34th Street in San Antonio, TX. Junior married Genevieve Garcia (“Jean”) on July 20, 1958, and they were inseparable as they enjoyed 65 years of marriage and built a beautiful family together. Anyone who knew Junior knew that he loved his beautiful wife and was very devoted to her and his children.
Junior was a successful, self-made business entrepreneur as he was the co-owner and founder of G & L Welding and Erection Company for over 20 years.
Junior loved to host bar-b-que dinners for family and friends. Everyone was welcome and the food was plentiful. The best functions were held at Junior and Jean’s home in the backyard and family events were always memorialized by serving his famous fajitas, brisket and all the trimmings. He enjoyed manicuring his yard and making sure there were no overgrown shrubs/hedges or unattended leaves.
A visitation will begin on Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM, at Sunset Funeral Home, with the Rosary service beginning at 6:30 PM. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes, TX on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM and interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2.
