Betty G. Hughes

Betty Hughes was born in San Antonio, TX on November 18, 1925 and passed away September 12, 2018 surrounded by family. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended one year of college at Stephen’s College in Columbia, MO. It was there that she met her husband 2LT Frank J. Hughes, on a blind date. They married three months later on June 14, 1943 and had three children James, Susan and Sharon.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Lella Danforth Schertz, stepfather Stuart Warner, husband Frank and son James. She is survived by her daughters Susan Despault (Richard), Sharon Martin (Richard) 7 grandchildren Regina, April, Tanya, Tasha, Tracy, Meagan and James, 5 great-grandchildren Marie, Forrest, Brandon, Devin and Victoria, all whom adored her.

She was a stay-at-home mom until her children entered high school. She then worked for the Western Union for 12 years and Bank of America for 12 years.

A family Memorial Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park on Friday October 12, 2018 at 2pm. Donations can be made to The Animal Defense League or to a charity of one’s choice. You are invited to sign the guest book at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
