Betty Ramona Carlis, affectionately known as "Betty Boo," was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, though she spent part of her younger years in South Carolina.
Betty attended Franklin K. Lane High School in Queens, NY. She was known for her one-of-a-kind flair and impeccable sense of style—many would say she had great style. A lover of cooking, dancing, and house music, Betty was truly the life of the party. She found joy in entertaining guests and sharing laughs with her family and close friends.
Betty is survived by her five beloved children: Edward Carlis, whose father was Eddie; Latrice Dowdy and Darius Dowdy, whom she shared with David Dowdy; and Najee White and Osiris White, whom she shared with Wilbert White Jr. Osiris is joined in life by his loving wife, Mariyah.
She was a proud grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren: Rashaun, Kai’el, and La’kaiyah.
Betty also leaves behind her cherished niece Fatima Brown, niece Tara Carlis, and nephews Frederick Carlis III and Justin Pelot. She is also survived by her beloved aunt Annie Keller Rivers, affectionately known as Pumpkin, and her dear cousins Alice, Edward, Sonorra, Ramona, James, Saladine, and Shawn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claydell “Cindy” Carlis and Fred Carlis, her brother Fred Carlis Jr., and her nephew Joseph Pelot.
Betty leaves behind a host of extended family and lifelong friends who will continue to celebrate her memory, her vibrant energy, and the joy she brought into every room she entered.
A visitation for Betty will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. A funeral service will occur Friday, May 2, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home.
Any monetary donation for funeral expenses may be paid out directly to the funeral home.
