Bertha Esquivel Zapata peacefully drifted into the arms of her Lord on August 17 2023, at the age of 87. Bertha was born in San Antonio Texas on November 11, 1935 to Lawrence Esquivel and Josefina Novak.
Bertha would spend her time quilting, she made it a priority to make a baby blanket for each of the grandchildren. She would often crochet, sew or quilt oven mitts, blankets, or pot holders for everything. Often giving them as gifts to all of her family and friends. Bertha perfected her signature enchiladas, cookies, and cakes and would serve delicious food to her family. She was always staying busy with crafts, watching cooking shows and home makeover shows. Bertha gave her time to St. Jude’s Senior Community and for a few years served as the treasure of the senior community. Bertha will always be remembered as being loving and kind, she would help anyone in her family or neighborhood that might need help.
She will be reunited in heaven with her mother, Josefina Novak, and uncle; Micheal Novak as well as her beloved son, Lawrence Zapata.
Bertha’s memory will forever live in her wonderful husband, Tony Zapata; daughters, Debra Alvarez (Sebastian), Denise Lopez (Richard), and Diana Ramirez (Tony); daughter-in-law, Irma Zapata. Grandchildren, Roxanna Morales, Jerry Morales (Nicole), Adrian Zapata (Aleksandra), Austin Zapata, Amanda Zapata, Anthony Ramirez (Clarissa), and Alexandra Ramirez-Gonzalez (Jacob); great great-grandchildren, Mikayla Cano, Sofia Morales, Timmy Morales, Jaina Morales, Elias Zapata, Valentina Zapata, and Benjamin Zapata. Siblings, Albert Reyes (Gloria), and Rachel Reyes; longtime family friends, Eddy Mendez and Tommy Lopez; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A visitation for Bertha will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78237. A rosary service will occur Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 7:00 PM, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78237. A mass of the ressurection will occur Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church, 130 S. San Augustine Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78237. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
