Bertha Alicia Rodriguez, age 87, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. She was surrounded by family and passed peacefully at home. Bertha was born in Laredo, Texas to the late Luis and Matilde Villafranca. She grew up in a close family, amongst five sisters, a brother and many close aunts and cousins whom she loved dearly. She lived through World War II, using rations and sacrificing for the war effort. After WWII, Bertha met Roberto Rodriguez, and they were married on June 2, 1948 at Holy Redeemer Church in Laredo, Texas. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Falfurrias, Texas where they raised their three children. After all three children graduated from college, the family moved to San Antonio, Texas, where eventually, Bertha helped raise five grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Bertha’s deep love for her family radiated in all that she endeavored. She was generous to a fault and opened her doors to her family, friends, and people in need. She was a magnificent cook and learned her craft at an early age, standing on a box so that she could duplicate her mother’s culinary techniques.
