Bernardo was a quiet and reserved man. He loved the simple things in life. He loved to golf, hunt, fish and playing the guitar and piano which were passions that were self-taught. Bernie graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1974 and was a star football player for the Jefferson Mustangs, earning All District and All City Honors in San Antonio. He accepted a football scholarship to Eastern New Mexico State where he earned a degree in Engineering Technology and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Electrical Engineering(BSEE) in 1984. Bernie accepted a job with Texas Instruments where he worked for 26 years. He operated several personal businesses in Houston before eventually accepting a job in Software Engineering/Information Technology in the Banking Industry with positions in Birmingham, AL, Salt Lake City, UT and returning to San Antonio, TX before his retirement. He had many great things to be personally proud of through his life and being part of a football family (his father was a career high school football coach) was very proud of his younger brother Gabriel Rivera who was a high school All American, collegiate All- American and first round draft pick and player for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a devoted loving husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be greatly missed.
