He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Julia Dupnick Sekula; his sisters, Catherine Sekula Kollodziej, Monica Sekula Casares, and Victoria Sekula Dupnick; his brothers, Leon Sekula and Anton Sekula; and he is survived by his sisters, Mary Sekula Vaughn, Bernice Sekula Stein, and Christine Sekula Ingle; his twelve children, Beverline Sekula Finger, Barbara Sekula Metzger, Gloria Sekula Just, Benedict Sekula, Jr., David Sekula, Marc Sekula, Laura Sekula Clem, Gregory Sekula, Janice Sekula Martinez, Paula Sekula Stutes, Julie Sekula Andrews, and Mary Sekula Hannasch; 34 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grand children. Benedict Sekula left his hometown in 1939 with his new bride to explore opportunities in San Antonio. He began work in the construction industry as laborer which evolved into a career as general superintendent for three local general contractors – Morris Jaffee, Martin Bros and FA Nunnelly Co. He supervised the construction of many buildings in San Antonio and surrounding areas including the first shopping center in Austin, TX; Mercy Hospital and the Convention Center in Laredo, TX; Cole HS; Holmes HS; pavilions at Hemisfair ’68; San Antonio Light Newspaper; NSISD Paul Taylor Field House; and the Pearl Brewery Full Goods Warehouse & Can Plant. After he retired, he was active with his family. Benedict enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with his kids, nurturing his grand kids, gardening, hunting, fishing, “camping by the river”, and fondly reminiscing about the adventures of past building projects he managed and the people he met along the way. He lived a life that epitomized Psalm 127:3-5 “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord…like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them.”
