Rebecca (Becky) A. Runyan gained her heavenly angel wings on May 17, 2023 leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration. She was born on June 21, 1956 to her loving parents Mary and Robert Bond in Decatur, Illinois. She graduated from Decatur MacArthur High School and received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Illinois State University. She specialized in Reading, teaching and motivating hundreds of Kindergarteners and First graders. She began her teaching career in Tovey, IL and then went on to teach at Yakota Air Force base in Japan. She retired after 35 years in education in NEISD in San Antonio in 2015. She lived a life full of purpose and dedication to her family, career, and community.
Becky was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife who always put her loved ones first. Her compassion, kindness, and support were unmatched, and she always found a way to make us feel loved and valued. Becky loved being a grandma, reading, traveling, cooking, baking and spending time with her family. She was a humble and gracious woman who went above and beyond to help others succeed and flourish in their goals.
Becky is preceded in death by her beloved Mother, Mary Lois Martin Bond; her Father, Robert Bond; her Mother-in-Law, Thelma Dubose Runyan; her Father-in-law Perry Runyan Sr. and Brother-in-law, James (Jim) McCauley. She is survived by her loving husband, Perry Runyan Jr.; daughter Melissa Runyan and her husband Christopher Cruz (grandchildren Audrina Contreras and Zackariah Cruz); daughter Melanie Runyan (grandchildren Apollo Runyan, Benjamin Runyan, and Adeline Runyan); Son Perry Runyan III and his wife Hera Runyan (grand-dog Storm); Son Matthew Runyan; her sister, Mary McCauley; her brother David Bond and his wife Deborah Bond and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family can be made to honor Becky's life and legacy. Becky will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her love, kindness, and inspiration will continue to live on in our hearts forever. We love you forever and always Mom!
A visitation for Rebecca will be held Monday, June 5, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A committal service will occur Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218.
