Barbara Jean Leal or as the grandkids called her "Grandma Barbie", passed away on March 5, 2021. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her memory care facility where her longtime soulmate husband Ramon Leal also resides. After a long fight with Alzheimer’s /advanced dementia Grandma Barbie went on to be with our Lord in heaven. She was 72. Barbara Leal was born on October 24, 1948 in Alabama and is survived by her faithful husband of 30 years, Ramon Leal. He is a Vietnam Vet and worked for the city, planning many projects in San Antonio, TX. Barbara was a distinguished philanthropist who did pilgrimages & missions all over the world for the Oblates. Both Ramon and Barbara Leal are of Catholic faith and even met the Pope in Italy on one of their many travels together. ‘Grandma Barbie was the smartest woman you've ever met. She was an outstanding cook and host. She had the best sense of humor even after being diagnosed. Grandma Barbie would put these orange peels in her mouth and smile revealing a sunny orange grin which made all the grandkids laugh and reach for other fruit to do the same.” Until her health condition made it impossible, Barbara made every Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter one to remember. She had a servants heart and would not let you get up for seconds or a refill of sweet tea. Her shopping skills and sense of style were always on point. You would say, Barb is that a Prada dress? She replied simply "oh this old thing" There will never be another Grandma Barbie. She loved her Chile Rellenos, Clay Tofu Hot Pots, Sweet Tea and doing crossword puzzles. She was a voracious reader. Her favorite song was Unchained Melody by the Righteous Bros. We love her and miss her dearly. A beautiful woman inside and out who helped out more people than anyone would have ever known. We will always remember her rosy cheeks and sweet nature. She turned heads while in this world and we are sure still shining her light, bright in heaven.
Barbara Leal is survived by loyal Husband, Ramon Leal; Her Son, Jonathan Foster and his spouse, Claudia Foster; Her Daughter, Michaelle Koehnke and her spouse, Pat Koehnke; Stepdaughter Rhonda Myshele Gonzalez and her spouse, Anthoney Gonzalez; Grandchildren, Nicole Layton, Jessica Koehnke, Kristin Koehnke, Joseph Koehnke, Nicholas and Brisa Foster, Neyna Mia and Maximo Gonzalez; Great grandchildren, Riley Foster and Lorelei Layton.
