Barbara had a long and happy life. She was born in Bisbee, Arizona where her father had taken the family so he could find work in the mines. When she was two they returned to the family home in Lawn, Texas. Barbara's father became very ill and was taken from them. They lived with their grandparents and her mother worked in the local switchboard office. In high school Barbara played basketball. At age 15 she met the love of her life and best friend Wiley Burt Gillit. They were married on December 28, 1957 and celebrated their love each and every day for over 58 years. One of her greatest accomplishments was raising four children and teaching them, by example, the importance of faith, kindness, compassion and love for our neighbors. Barbara and Wiley stayed busy in their life. They ran a successful business, loved camping, square dancing, travelling, playing with their grandchildren and most recently their great-grandchildren. They joined the Order of the Eastern Star in the late 1980s and in 1990-91 she served as Worthy Matron of her chapter, Alamo Heights #734.
