at the age of 87. Born in Laredo, TX, June 19, 1934, Arthur attended St. Peter’s Elementary School, and St. Joseph’s Academy where he graduated in 1952.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country as a midshipman while stationed
in Kingsville, TX. He then pursued his degree in Austin at the University of Texas.
After graduation, Arthur worked for the Texas Department of Agriculture in San Antonio, TX where he married the love of his life, Ida R. Williams. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and was involved with the ACTS group. Arthur was also active with the Meals on Wheels program and relished the experience of delivering food to those in need. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and both he, and his wife Ida, loved playing bridge with their closest friends.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Russell and Esther Penn Leyendecker, Ida, his wife of 43 years, and his brothers Edward Russell, Jr., Justo Penn and Philip Andrew Leyendecker. He is survived by his sister, Esther Frances L. Stewart, Ida’s children Patrick Maxwell and Bridget Leyendecker, and grandson, Christopher Maxwell.
A Rosary will be recited on November 13, 2021 at 11am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30am officiated by Father Agustin Escalante.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Pat O’Brien in San Antonio at St Pius X Catholic Church at 3303 Urban Crest Drive on November 18, 2021 at 1pm and internment will follow at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery at 2:30pm at Shelter 3
