Armando H. Sierra, 93, was called by our Lord on February 27, 2018. Born to Antonio and Domitila Sierra on November 2, 1924 in Laredo, Texas, Armando dedicated his life to family, friends, the military, and community service. He will long be remembered as a proud United States Army Veteran, a loving husband, and a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.
Armando is preceded in death by his wife of over 71 years, Aurora Sierra; parents, and son, Armando G. Sierra Jr. He is survived by his children; Obdulia Tosi (Ted), Guadalupe Paredes, Anna Campos (Paul), Blanca Gonzalez (Ramiro), Aurora Valdez (Ruben), and David Sierra, 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many other family members.
Armando was a true patriot and a proud servant to his nation having served in the US Army. His service included action in the Pacific Theater of World War II (New Guinea and the Philippines), the Korean War, and the Vietnam War along with assignments in Australia, Europe (Italy and Germany), and throughout the US (Louisiana, Virginia, Alaska, and Texas.)
During Armando's unaccompanied tours, Aurora raised the Sierra Family in their home in San Antonio, Texas, established in 1946. Armando and Aurora continued to reside in San Antonio and to instill their family traditions with expanding family and friends. In February of 1971, Armando retired as a Sergeant First Class at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, with over 28 years of service to the nation.
Armando and Aurora thoroughly enjoyed travel, dancing, cooking, and celebrating with family. The Sierras shared fond memories and treasured friendship through their active involvement in the San Antonio Kickers Club and the Linda's Social Club. The Sierras also volunteered at the Alicia Treviño López Senior Center supporting food drives.
The family would like to thank Encompass for the services they provided over the past three years for Armando and Aurora Sierra. In addition, they thank Armando's caretaker, Teresa, for her utmost dedication and care that she provided. Visitation will be held at 6:00PM, March 19, 2018 with a 7:00PM Rosary at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Rd., San Antonio, TX 78238. Funeral Mass will be at St. Dominic's Catholic Church at 8:30am on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, 5919 Ingram Rd., San Antonio, TX 78238. Interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
