Our beloved father and grandfather, Antonio “Tony” Martinez, entered eternal rest on May 22, 2020 at the age of 70. Born in San Benito, TX to Pedro and Guadalupe Martinez on June 13, 1949, he is now reunited with his father Pedro “Popo” Martinez.
Tony was always a very hard worker. At a very young age, he began selling newspapers at Kelly AFB and downtown San Antonio. Later in life, he would earn a living as a farm worker. Tony always knew the importance of a good education, encouraging his children and grandchildren to pursue their dreams. He was an avid reader, history buff, and knew sports like no other. Tony was a “walking encyclopedia”, loved politics, and never missed an opportunity to exercise his civic duty. He loved his Lanier Voks, Dallas Cowboys, and SPURS. He was a man of faith and found it easy to follow the word of God even through hard times. He always gave to others and helped whoever was in need including strangers, even if it meant he had to go without. He was one of his mother’s primary caregivers. Any given day, you would find him grocery shopping, cooking delicious food, or making someone laugh. His children and grandchildren were his whole world. He was so proud of all their accomplishments, both big and small. You could often find him cheering them on at their little league games or scouting events. Tony was truly a genuine, caring, humble, giving, loving, and gentle soul. He had a pure heart of gold and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind, to cherish his memories, his beautiful mother Guadalupe Martinez; children: Richard Garza, Joyce (Elois) Pesina, and Sharon Martinez; grandchildren: Julian Felan, Adrian Felan, Roger Ortiz, Damian Felan, Lauren Garza, Gloria “Lupita” Pesina, and Iliana Pesina; siblings: Pete (Erma) Martinez, George Martinez, Juan (Lucy)Martinez, Raul (Minerva) Martinez, Mary Estrada , and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving all guests on Sunday, May 31, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm followed by a Rosary and Celebration of his life at 7:00 pm for immediate family members. For online tributes, please visit the online guest book and Remember When tribute page.
