Anthony John Grothues Jr.

Anthony (Tony) John Grothues, Jr, 77, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Tony was born on September 3, 1946, to Anthony (AJ) John Grothues, Sr., and Joan Grothues. He has joined his ancestors, parents, sister, daughter, and three grandchildren in eternal glory.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 7, 2024, for the family 5:00 - 6:00 P.M. and for the public from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. followed by the service at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel at the Sunset Northwest Funeral Home (6321 Bandera Rd). The burial service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Mission South Cemetery (1700 SE Military).

On August 1, 2000, Tony and Nancy exchanged vows. Tony is survived by Nancy, his siblings and their spouses, Patty and Randy, Susie and Sam, Robert and Francis, and Ginger and Alan, his children and their spouses, Tammie, Marc and Christy, Robert, and Becky and Leah, his stepchildren, Adam and Von, his grandchildren and their spouses, Victoria and Robert, Hayden and Julia, Mya, Susan, Vincent, Carson, and Chloe, and his great grandchild, Athena.

Throughout his life, Tony demonstrated an unwavering work ethic. After a distinguished career, he retired from HB Zachary Company as a computer programmer, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism that earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. As a provider, Tony’s dedication to his family highlighted his unwavering commitment to them. While he may not have always expressed his emotions in words, his love and care for his family spoke volumes through the sacrifices he made and the support he offered. His legacy of hard work and commitment to family values will always be remembered. As a spiritual person, Tony loved the Lord and exemplified his faith, especially in times of hardship, which reflected his deeply held principles. His actions, often unnoticed by many, were a testament to his love and quiet fortitude. Today, Tony is surrounded by eternal life, perpetual comfort, everlasting beauty, and limitless love.
