Nancy was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, the third child, and only daughter of Vincent A. and Suzanne Snell. In 1949, Nancy moved to San Antonio with her family. It was here that she met her husband, George Carlton Mead, and made a life for herself and her family. She attended Lake Forest High School, St. Mary of the Woods College and ultimately graduated from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. She and George were married for 50 years - a milestone that was recently marked by her family.
Throughout her life, Nancy was an active and passionate volunteer. As a member of the Junior League - she was introduced to and developed a lifelong relationship with Santa Rosa Children's Hospital. For more than 40 years, she served the hospital as a member of the Auxiliary, the Director of Volunteers and as a member of the Children's Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. She spent her time and energy raising funds and friends for the hospital she loved.
Her hand was evident in, among other things, the creation of the Ivy Cottage and the Child Life Program.
Nancy will always be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her beautiful smile, her sense of humor and her great love for her husband, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted husband, George; her four children, George C. Mead, Jr., Elizabeth Mead Hauglid and her husband, Jim, Robert March Mead and his wife, Katia and Suzanne Suzie Mead Feldmann and her husband, Kirk; her four beloved grandchildren, Cameron, Megan, Anne Marie and Sasha.
