Ann Thompson Castleberry, born April 4, 1935 in Hermitage, AR. Our beloved mother, granny, sister, aunt, cousin & friend, lost her heroic battle with myasthenia gravis on August 27, 2010. Through the years, Mom never lost her farm girl work ethic, or her southern charm. She was always as soft as a pillow or as hard as a hammer, based on our particular need at the time. Mom worked in the Methodist Health Care system for 28 years, caring for hundreds upon hundreds of patients. She was a caring and passionate, friend and mentor to many of her fellow nurses throughout the years. Mom touched many lives and careers in the rooms and hallways of 2 North during her highly regarded career. After her retirement, Mom dedicated her life to her faith, friends, travel, and most importantly to her beloved grandchildren. She gave countless hours to many charitable organizations, and agencies including the San Antonio Ambassador Program, and the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. Mom loved her semi-quarterly Bridge Club meetings with her dear friends and club mates of almost forty years. She loved to play Bunko and Mahjong with her friends and to socialize at the Red Hats Society gatherings. She also loved her weekly “Coffee Clutch” gatherings at the Jim’s in Helotes. Ann is survived by her children Tony Castleberry, his wife Cheryl, and Kristi Castleberry Long and husband Greg. Mom’s loving family also includes her cherished grandsons Jackson, Colt, and Brody. Ann is also survived by her sisters Martha Sharp, Una Fort, and Jean Beverburg, her niece Donna Bailey, her nephew Bill Sharp, his wife Kay, and all of their children and grandchildren. Mom is also survived by many, many close, life long friends, and neighbors. Our family would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to our Second Mom, Joanne Harris, and her children Joi, and Pam. We would also like to thank our dear friends Shelly Wright and Beverly Balwin for their unyielding support and care during mom’s illness. Thanks to all of our many friends and neighbors for your countless calls, cards, and other expressions of love and caring during Mom’s illness. We will dearly miss our daily phone calls, her wise guidance and council, family Christmas at home, our many special birthdays, family trips to Arkansas and beyond, Thanksgiving with the family and the Cowboys, and the cherished time that she spent with our children. The world has lost a remarkable woman but is a much, much, better place because of the time that she spent on it. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at University Methodist Church 5084 DeZavala San Antonio, TX 78249. In Lieu of flowers your donation in memory of Ann Castleberry may be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc. P.O. Box 420187 Atlanta, Georgia 30342 and to Salvation Army Auxillary Hope Center c/o Peacock House 521 W. Elmira San Antonio, TX 78212.
