Angel was born in Camaguey, Cuba. He finished his University studies with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and worked for many years with International Harvester. However, in 1962 he decided to legally emigrate to the United States to escape Castro’s communism. He arrived with his wife and 2 young sons with only 2 sets of clothes per person, as all of the family’s assets had to be left behind to the Communist Government.
Once in the US, being a very hard worker and entrepreneur, he established himself in Dallas, Texas and within a few years opened a Cuban Grocery store. It became very successful and over the years grew to include a bakery and a second location in North Dallas. Upon retirement moved to Florida. He lived in Florida for many years and returned to Texas the last few years to be closer to his sons and grandchildren. He loved playing Dominoes and being with family.
He is survived by his loving wife Maria Mendez; sons: Carlos and Angelo; his grandchildren: Andrew, Elise, Emily, Zachary, Melissa; Daughters-in-law: Karen Mendez and Janine Mendez; his Great-grandchildren: Riley and Harrison and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 11am at Sunset Memorial Park.
