Andres Medrano Sr. age 90, passed away February 21, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Harlingen, Texas on November 30, 1921 to Fernando and Brigid Medrano. After graduating from Harlingen High school, He enlisted in the U.S. Army. Mr. Medrano volunteered for overseas duty and was assigned to the 23rd Pursuit Group of the "Flying Tigers" in the Chica-Burma-India Theater. While in this group, he was a Military Policeman serving on a secret mission in Pakistan. He was honorably discharged on October of 1944. He worked at Kelly AFB as an aircraft electrician for over 28 years, retiring in 1980. He is survived by his wife Ofelia Medrano; son, Andres Medrano Jr.; daughters, Virginia Duran and husband Steve, Gloria Rios and husband Anthony; grandchildren, Anthony Rios III, Veronica Scarahorn, Steve Duran Jr., Christopher Dallas Duran, Alexsis Perales, and Adrian Duran; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 7893 Grissom Road with Rev. Msrg. Patrick Cronin officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Army Military Honors.
