Alys Kathryn Sims

Alys Kathryn Sims passed away on Monday, May 30, 2011. Kathryn was born on July 16, 1923 in Quanah, TX to Roy Vernon and Flossie Pearl Forsyth. She graduated from Quanah H.S. in 1939, and began her college studies in Journalism at Texas Tech College the next fall. On May 15, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles N. Sims Jr. After Charles retired from the USMC 1964, the family settled in Corpus Christi, TX where Kathryn and Charles continued to raise their family. Kathryn worked as a manager/buyer for Lichtenstein’s Department Stores of Corpus Christi and was later employed as an area manager and buyer for the three Frost Brothers Department stores in the Corpus area. Kay co-owned and managed the Gift Box prior to her retirement from the retail business.

Kathryn was preceded in death by husband, Charles N. Sims, Jr., on February 27, 2009 after 65 years of marriage; her parents Flossie and Vernon Forsyth; and her sister Dorothea Thomas.

She is survived by her children Charles N. Sims, III, David Forsyth Sims and Nancy Lynn Sims Meehan; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Chapel, 1701 Austin Hwy with burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX alongside her husband Charles.Visitation will be Monday, June 6, from 5 to 7:00 pm. The memorial service will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel Tuesday, June 7, at 8:00 am, with the graveside service to follow at 9:30 am.
